Title: Concerts anyone?
Post by: Bacchus on June 12, 2009, 04:01:42 PM
As a regular concert-goer, i went to see Buckcherry live yesterday. thought they rocked. Sunday i'll be seeing some dutch singer, and next week i'll be seeing Eddie Spaghetti (the singer of the Supersuckers) live again. Also got tickets to see Brian Wilson live in july, and i've got tickets to attend the 3-day music festivall Lowlands in august. Really looking forward to both.

So, anyone else going to attend concerts anytime soon? share!

Haven't been to a concert since just before Xmas, which makes me sad. Might need to fix that.

attending concerts is one of my more fav pasttimes. anyway, in the coming months there'll be concerts of Vetiver, Blitzen Trapper, Chatham County Line, Cold War Kids, Jerry Lee Lewis and Starsailor among others. will probably not attend all of them, but plan on seeing at least Blitzen Trapper and the Chatham County Line. Furr by Blitzen Trapper is still one of the best albums of the last year

Over the last weekend I went to the Isle of Wight music festival on a friends stag do. The acts I watched included: Prodigy, Sterophonics, Calvin Harris, Pigeon Detectives and The Script.
This was my first festival so it was quite an experience dancin away with 75,000 other people

went to see Eddie Spaghetti live yesterday. he's the singer, and as he said it, a quarter of the best rock and roll band in history, The Supersuckers. he did a solo tour with his family, and i must say it rocked. it was a free gig, and there were a lot of people who just stumbled in drunk and didn't know who eddie was. i liked it nevertheless. he actually played a song i shouted, and that has never happened to me before, so that was a good change

This might be a suitable place and a suitable date to tell this story:

Blues Traveller plays a concert every year at a nearby outdoor venue, on 4th of July. Last year, my mother treated myself and Joey to attendance, so we went. My mum had a Blues Traveller t-shirt that I remember her wearing when I was a kid, but I wasn't very familiar with their music, nor was Joe. My older sister recommended them, and she was the one who talked me into saying 'sure'. Anyway, so we drive down to Red Rocks, and find parking, and walk in, and walk up the massive numbers of stairs, and then more stairs, and finally sit down just as the opener is finishing their last couple of songs. We chat a little, and listen. The band below moves out, and another band moves in -- this is around 7:00, 8:00 pm. We (rather foolishly) assume that this band is actually Blues Traveler, but.... their singer doesn't bring out a harmonica, and Mum talks about how the songs don't sound familiar, and after about an hour of listening to songs we don't know, we decide to go.

My sister only recently told us about how some of her friends, who were at that concert, said the Travelers were awesome..... and that they came on at 10:00, after the Front Range firework displays (all of which are visible from the stadium). Gah.

By the way, this is why it's called Red Rocks:

(that's facing south-west, there's an identical upcrop on the north, and the whole place is made out of that stone.)

Red Rocks is great place to see a show. Its beautiful. When I used to live in Aurora I saw numerous concerts there including Metallica, Iron Maiden, Dio, BB King, and a few others (this was the 80s-90s). there is also of course a few concert films recorded there like U2 "Live at Red Rocks". Good times.

went to see Brian Wilson yesterday. it was awesome, one of the coolest shows i've ever seen. been a Beach Boys fan for as long as i can remember. think my parents bought me a cd when i was about 9, and i loved it ever since (together with a cd of John Denver, which i loved ever since as well). it was amazing to see the man who wrote all those great songs sing them, together with a 10-man band. it literally allmost brought a tear to my eyes

First concert i went to was actually not too long ago. Went to the V Festival in Sydney to see my all time fav band, The Smashing Pumpkins (whether ppl say they are them or just Billy trying to cash in, wat ever, a name is just a name after all) Also had Queens of a stone age playing aswell. Front row of the Mosh pit = went totally wild, and was sore =P

However things didnt go so well as they were planned. Helen (Teal if ppl remember from this forums) couldnt stand the mosh pit once the Pumpkins came out, so she had to hop out. I thought she said that she will meet me at the side, so a couple mins later i got out aswell to meet her. Couldnt find her, so started panicking. I walked around the whole place the entire concert looking for her, worrying like hell. Missed the 1 thing that i mainly live for...

After we found each other AFTER the event =P she said that she was saying for me to stay and she will watch from the side =\ She felt so bad that i missed the Pumpkins, that 2 days later, she booked 2 plane tickets, and 2 tickets to see the Pumpkins live in Melbourne Festival Hall!!! However the concert was good... I actually got a cold on the day, had to wake up at 3am to get on a plane back to Sydney and get to a wedding by 10am.

That is my 2 Cents.

Cheers, Mag.

And so I break Baz's run of consecutive posts...

I'm going to my annual Biffy Clyro concert this Wednesday coming. Oh yeah! Should kick-ass, as usual. Quite looking forward to getting hammered and annoying the passsive concert-goers.

I'm no placid guy at a concert. :P

If I remember correctly, there were rather excited reports involving a scarf, beer, cider, and being hot because you had a scarf, and jumping, and scarf, and beer ..... etc, after your last annual Clyro concert.
Hm.

Don't bring a scarf this time. :P

I lost that scarf last winter. It was legendary, as well. I mourn it to this day.

you know, this thread always reminds me of a guy I knew (not well, and haven't seen 'im in years, at least since my older sis broke up with him) who cut up his credit cards so as not to use them to buy concert tickets, but kept them in a drawer and got very good at putting them together to read the numbers.
Bit of a pointless exercise in attempted forced frugality, if you ask me.

Concert I went to last night was great. I was absolutely wrecked, after it. I hope next time I'm due to go to a rock gig, my body doesn't get weak again. I hardly had anything in me near the end. Loved it, though.

Aye, it's actually tonight, don't know why I've said tomorrow tbh. On my way now. Have to miss one of the Jonas Brothers opening for Britney though... Brit was the hot thing when I was the age when I started discovering myself, so it's a sort of youth sentiment really. Plus I've got a ticket for my birthday.

Saw Judas Priest last weekend... which I mentioned in another thread. They were OK. Not like they used to be of course. The bassist didn't move from his spot the entire show. Played all their classics though.

Side note: at the risk of being called a pansy, I got these for the show and highly recommend them to those of you who may attend concerts but wish to not lose your hearing for days or longer.

Etymotic Research (http://www.amazon.com/Etymotic-Research-Protection-Earplugs-Standard/dp/B0044DEESS/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1319217223&sr=8-2)

They really do work well, unlike the foam ones they let the sound through but just reduce the db, so the music gets through its just quieter. Worked really well.

Taking my daughter to see Kelly Clarkson tonight, and I just bought tickets to see Alison Krauss and Union Station yesterday.

You know what really makes me mad though? The inability to choose your seats for most concerts when your buying your tickets. Maybe other venues have their crap together, but the 3 here where I live give you only the ability to choose either a price level, or at best a section. Then they feed you the same seats over and over again no matter how many times you try to search. I want to pick my specific seats from those available dammit.  :irritated:

For example, I do not like to stand and rock out if I don't feel like it the whole time. I would like to sit far back but in the front row of the section. i was buying tickets yesterday during a pre-sale that I had a password for. So I picked the section, and kept searching, the closest I could get to the front of the section was the BBB row, no matter how many times I searched, so I bought them. Now, today, sale goes to general public, i search for seats just for fun (cause I'm like that) and now the AAA row seats *right in front of the two I bought yesterday* are showing up in the search!! what the hell? Grrrrrr

Went to Lenny Kravitz last night. BEST. CONCERT. EVER! Dude is epic. EPIC, I tells ya!!!

Plus, y'know, support acts were the Cranberries and Wolfmother, who you may have heard of.

Great night.

LET LOVE RULE!!
Title: Re: Concerts anyone?
Post by: Alrin on March 29, 2012, 04:52:54 AM
Wolfmother are total trash, but Lenny and the Cranberries would've been win.

I'm off to see Sublime With Rome next week. Although they can't really be called Sublime With... any more, since the only original member now is Eric. I'm petitioning a name change to Eric Plus Two.

Then I'm off to see Frank Turner on May 13. And maybe May 12, too, if I can be arsed flying down to Sydney and back for the extra show. We'll see.

Streetlight Manifesto will be in town come early July, but they are part of one of those multi-band mega tours that charge way more money for tickets than I can afford. Since I have no real interest in seeing those other bands, I will be skipping this one and hoping that SM comes back my way later... just without all of those other bands to up the prices.

Frank Turner will be coming back to town in September and look to be booked in a much larger venue this time. Thank the lord for that. The place we were tucked into last time around was so f**king tiny it was hard to breathe. Now I just need to find someone to go with because Mal is dodgy when it comes to crowds and her taste in music sucks.

Also, Florence and the Machine will be in town this October and I definitely don't want to miss that.

Saw Iron Maiden last night, was pretty awesome if you like that sort of thing. My only issue was that they were recreating in part a previous tour's setlist, and I'm not a huge fan of some of the songs which are from what I consider to be some of their more inferior years.

But anyway, it was good, I enjoyed it.

Saw Smith Street Band and Bomb the Music Industry! last night. Both were great but the venue was f**king shithouse. Promoters didn't account for the pull of SSB's rising popularity coupled with BTMI's final Aussie tour, and so this tiny sardine can of a venue ended up packed beyond capacity. It wound up a dangerous hotbox of sweating, claustrophobic and frustrated punters. Had better times.

Coheed and Cambria and MSMR were in town a few nights ago for a free show, but I opted to skip it because the radio station putting the show on decided that they were going to rearrange the schedule and put the show on hold for more than three hours so that everyone could watch the Royals game. The team lost for thirty years in a row and as soon as they start winning everyone goes overboard. As much as I would love to see those bands, the thought of standing around bored for three hours while people cheered for the most boring sport I have ever seen (baseball) didn't appeal.
